Heyhey everyone! For those who are new here welcome to my adhoc culture roundup aka "Jana's Culture Roundup" Hehe. This is my 5th one since January! Thx Elena and Erin for being with me since the start ;)
To catch the rest of you up to speed, this little roundup newsletter started as a way for me to share my NYC recs in bite size pieces with Erin/Elena so they would actually do them and not feel overwhelmed by a list in excel.
LOL.
IDK if they actually do them, but we are way past that — I literally have so much fun writing these! #cantstopwontstop… And I figured I would add the whole August team since I'm on my way to THE international destination it seems for us August pals this year and take the culture roundup international! Woohoo!
~PSA This one is a bit longer than usual but I promise it's worth your while!~
Anyway, I'm writing to you from the JFK airport as I wait for my flight to start boarding. Turns out you can get through checkin/security to an international flight in 5 min if you don't check a bag, have TSA Pre-Check and get to the airport at 6pm on a Wednesday in late April. So I got all my work done (jk everything that needed to get done before I boarded my flight lol) and now have time to write my lovely culture roundup!
Without further ado keep reading for a fun lil' recap of my lovely NYC spring adventures from this past weekend! And, no, I'm not writing this drunk, so I'm sorry if it's not as funny as my other ones!
Saraghina Bakery/Pizzeria -- 5/5 **would definitely go for a 2nd time in the same month. #love #Bedstuy
Saraghina was the most charming Italian restaurant/bakery in Bedstuy. I learned about it from one of my fav's Sophia Roe and she did not disappoint.
First, on my walk over I saw Pierce Abernathy biking. And YES we did make eye contact. Obvi his bike was sexy and obvi he was wearing a helmet. We had time to lock eyes because he was moving v slowly on the road while fixing his gear and I was walking on the sidewalk towards him. Anyway it was awesome and I knew I was going to run in to him eventually. Just like I know we are going to keep running into each other in the prospect park area! <3
I arrived at Saraghina a lot earlier than my friend (per usual), so I went into the bakery and immediately bought an iced latte because I had just walked 50 min from my apartment and was v warm. After perusing for a couple min at the different types of olive oil and other Italian treats I saw something that really made my day — fresh pasta for only $3.50/serving. It was so yummy! and so cheap! highly highly recommend. My personal fav is tagliatelle but they had spaghetti and one other option I can't remember.
My friend finally arrived and we sat in the backyard garden. We shared the Spicy Brunch Pizza and boy oh boy was it delicious. Super duper recommend you go for brunch and get this pizza.
I then biked home, cooked the pasta and baked a Julia Child's chocolate cake for funsies for me and my friend for dinner that night… I always say never again to baking but tbh the cake was yummy and maybe even more yummy the next day cold??
It was the most lovely NYC spring day :')
Stay tuned for a British themed one soon!
Love, Jana <3
