013 - WHISTLER, BC!!
Hey y’all! Welcome back to my roundup! It has been 1 year since I posted, which is insane. But we’re back baby! And I can’t wait to write more and share it with you all.
Quick life updates:
I left my job
I’m working as a rock climbing instructor (heck ya)
I’m officially posting on TikTok **gasp** @sportsgirlfall (for now this is my name) I will be posting all things sports and things that interest me
Anyway, back to the good stuff! Here are some fun recaps from my recent ski trip to Whistler!! I’m not going to rank everything bc you have to do it all for the experience.
Restaurants
Yummy ramen in Whistler! Who knew? Not me. Apparently, this is a must on the first night on Whistler, so I will continue to follow this tradition! It was packed! But with a party of 6 we got seated asap. This couple who looked like they had been waiting for a while seemed a bit grumpy by this, but whateva. Anytime a party of 6 gets seated asap is a good day. We immediately got a pitcher of beer bc obvi. It’s a ski trip! And then I got this amazing curry ramen. It was so delicious and warmed my belly. The restaurant was decorated to be like the streets of Tokyo which was fun. It felt like I was in the backstage of a theater with all of the painted sets.
We had to hunt and gather for our food here. JKJK. But this place was so good. I had the amazing spicy chicken sandwich. And got a stupid IPA. Idk why I did it. I wanted a beer and this IPA seemed appealing but it was so bad I couldn’t finish it. Ruby gave it to a group of guys. I hope they enjoyed it.
If you didn’t know cows ice cream is the go to ice cream spot in ski towns. I’ve been going since i was a little kid. They always have a cow in front. When I was a kid you were allowed to sit on top of it. But now there’s a sign asking you not to sad. We had to wait to be seated at our restaurant this evening, so we walked around the village. I saw 3 men walking and eating ice cream cones and made a funny comment. It just looked so silly but also so good. So I went and bought one. I just had to, because I wanted to look cool eating ice cream walking around the Whistler Village ofc.
The special at Warehouse is you buy a cocktail and then they pour a coors light into it. It’s a wild sight, but actually pretty good. I didn’t get one but I tried it. I had a caesar wrap that I didn’t eat because i was too full from cows ice cream and then ate it for lunch on the slopes the next day. I was really excited to go, because my friends brother referred to it as an “underground bar” and yet it’s a chain in Canada lmao
Apres/Clubs
This is the main Apres Ski bar at the base of Whistler. And I made 2 appearances across 6 days. They are so lucky to have had me. The first was on Monday, which was pretty lowkey (sort of). We got a bucket of beer and I had 3 beers!! If you don’t know I’m hella light weight and this got me feeling really good. We drank beer, made jokes, ate sour patch kids, watched the kids dance on tables, danced ourselves and had a grand time! It was honestly so much fun.
My second appearance at Longhorn was a bit more rowdy. It was on Saturday at 3pm. My friends who I met up with mad a reservation during the prime time Saturday apres ski and things got lit. I was pacing myself bc I had been drinking every day for 6 days by that point, but my friends had just arrived a couple days before and this was the main event. It was my friends birthday, so this group was ordering drinks and oculdn’t be stopped. We had champagne. We had ski shots. We had regular shots. We had champagne whose sole purpose was to be sprayed!! There were dancing ladies. There were dancing guys. There were dancing moms. There were dancing dads. They had it all. My friend was so happy he kept saying like a little kid how much fun he was having for his birthday. We danced on stools from 3-6pm. And then went home, had dinner and went to sleep.
Merlin’s might have been my favorite apres. We went straight from the slops with our ski boots on and it was so lit. I had a cider and a gin and tonic. And it was delicious. There was a live band and it was completely packed. It was a perfect mix of local whistler staff and tourists.
Garfs was hilarious. This is the night club of Whistler, which 18yo probably would’ve loved going to for dancing. But tbh the DJ was not hitting for me. Also, there was literally nowhere to sit. The only places to sit were booths that you had to reserve. We danced all night long until I got tired and took the bus home early before the rest of them. Because there was no where to sit! My go to move is to sit down on a couch or a table and start chatting with people but couldn’t do that. My only option was to dance or to play pool, which I wasn’t about to do bc I am so bad at pool.
